They Think They’re Playing With Me And I’m Flying with My Hands
in the Air is the title of a solo exhibition prepared by Klaudia Prabucka (b. 1997) – a graduate of the Academy of Art in Szczecin and winner of the Łaźnia CCA award for the 2023 Best Art Graduation Work. In her works, Klaudia Prabucka refers to personal family narratives and problems faced by the young generation. However, she does so with her trademark nonsensical sense of humour, often resorting to puns and light-hearted aesthetics. Consequently, her art inspires emotions, intriguing and captivating the beholder. Difficult, serious subjects – such as mourning, dilemmas faced by young people or fear of financial instability – take on a unique twist, surprising the viewers. The audience of Prabucka’s works experiences a whole range of feelings and states – ranging from anxiety, emotion, surprise, curiosity, and tenderness to amusement. Klaudia Prabucka is extremely skilful in using various media and techniques, which she deftly combines in her subsequent projects. They Think They’re Playing With Me And I’m Flying with My Hands in the Air at Łaźnia CCA will bring together oil paintings, films, animations, sculptural works and spatial installations. Death and Herring will also be featured – an emotional tale about the artist’s grandmother’s passing, yet told in such a surreal, colourful and surprising fashion that the viewer has an impression of seeing a folk tale. Also on display will be Prabucka’s most
recent paintings from 2023 and 2024, including the title one They Think They’re Playing With Me And I’m Flying with My Hands in the Air as well as films and animations, such as A Ball to Celebrate the Fact Young People Won’t Raise Enough Money for Their Retirement, Sperm Obsession, I’m Pretty, and How to Paint Bankruptcy.
The exhibition will be supplemented by a site-specific installation created for the LKW Gallery space (the lorry located in the public space on Szopy Street).
Klaudia Prabucka (1997) graduated from the Academy of Art in Szczecin, where she studied Media Art and Animation (2022). In her works, she analyses and reinterprets social conflicts. Łaźnia CCA competition for the Best Art Graduation Work. Her works have been shown at BWA Bielsko-Biała, BWA Gorzów Wielkopolski and film festivals, such as Film Polska (Berlin), New Horizons (Wrocław) and Short Waves (Poznań). In 2022, she had a solo show at Trafostacja Sztuki in Szczecin.
